Up the Hill is part of a series of ongoing works made while at residencies, away from my family and home. Waterworks is a consideration of the work involved in motherhood, the work of being an artist, and how to work at both. In this series, I complete different durational tasks with a 5-gallon bucket of water filled with an amount that weighs the same as my young daughter. For Up the Hill, I gathered water from the nearby lake in a bucket found on the grounds and walked the steep incline back to my cabin, pausing when rest was required and moving quickly as I arrived at the top and made my way down the lawn to my destination.
